Hi! I’m Lucy Salmon, an author and illustrator based near Bath.

I write and illustrate books that celebrate imagination, the magic that can be found within the everyday, and small moments of connection. I’m also a graduate of the MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art.

One of my favourite things to do is build immersive and tactile worlds through experimenting with cutting and folding paper. My most exciting projects include hidden doors and transformative folds that reveal something new each time they are returned to.

I have been drawing for as long as I can remember and I always carry a sketchbook with me. Many of my observed characters have found their way into my stories.

When I’m not out drawing in my sketchbook, I work from my home studio, where I am often joined by my dog, George, a good audiobook and lots of cups of coffee. I am inspired by the colours I see, interactions between people and places and the conversations I overhear as I draw.

My love of storytelling led me to a degree in English and Creative writing and then an MA in Creative Writing. Once I graduated, I spent a year working in my local community library, before becoming a primary school teacher.

When I’m not illustrating, I’m usually immersed in stories in all of their forms - books, films, a really good television series. I love to draw outside with friends, explore the natural world with my little one and George the dog, and experiment with cooking.

I love collaborating on creative projects and working with publishers, editors, and fellow storytellers to bring new ideas to life. If you’d like to work together, please get in touch!
